William Sibert

Etowah County native Maj. Gen. William L. Sibert (1860-1935) was a soldier and civil engineer whose 40-year military career saw him head increasingly massive and strategically important construction projects, including the Mobile state docks and portions of the Panama Canal. During World War I, Sibert headed the U.S. Army's Chemical Warfare Service.
