Oliver O. Howard

Oliver Otis Howard (1830-1909) was a general in the U.S. Army during the Civil War and an administrator of the Freedmen's Bureau during Reconstruction. He later was a founder and president of Howard University in Washington, D.C., which was named in his honor.
