This 1948 watercolor by Erik Heyl depicts the steamship Tennessee, which was built in 1854 as a commercial steamer and repurposed as a blockade ship by the Union Navy during the Civil War. It was rechristened as the USS Mobile in 1864 after the Union seized the Confederate CSS Tennessee in the Battle of Mobile Bay.
