The pygmy sculpin (Cottus paulus) is restricted to Coldwater Spring and a short section of its spring run in Calhoun County. The pygmy sculpin is listed as a threatened species of endangered in Alabama. Coldwater Spring is protected as the public water supply by the City of Anniston.
