The lake sturgeon (Acipenser fulvescens) is a bottom-feeding fish found in the Mississippi River drainage system and was once abundant in the Coosa and Tennessee river systems. It is one of four species of sturgeon found in Alabama, and all are considered imperiled owing to habitat loss and other human-caused threats.
