Oluale Kossola Exhibit

This exhibit at the Africatown Heritage House tells the story of Oluale Kossola, who became known as Cudjo Lewis after his enslavement in Alabama. He was a member of the Yoruba people of what is now Benin and was kidnapped by slave-traders from the Kingdom of Dahomey in April 1860 and transported to Mobile. He would go on to become a founder of Africatown and the subject of an oral history by Zora Neale Hurston.
