Maj. Gen. William Luther Sibert (1860-1935) in uniform during World War I. Sibert's commands during the war included the First Infantry Division (known as "the Big Red One"), which fought key battles in France, the Southeastern Department of the Army at Charleston, South Carolina, and the Chemical Warfare Service.
