Jeremiah Austill (1794-1879) was one of 11 militiamen accompanying U.S. Army captain Samuel Dale during the Canoe Fight, a skirmish of the Creek War of 1813-14 that took place in Clarke County in November 1813. After the war, Austill remained in southwestern Alabama as a merchant, planter, county court clerk, and state legislator.
