First African Baptist Church in Tuscaloosa was built in 1907 by a congregation established in 1866. The church was the site of several events during the Tuscaloosa Campaign during the civil rights movement, including an attack on protestors by police and Klansmen. The building was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1988.
