USS Pivot Launching

The USS Pivot launches from the construction dock at the Gulf Shipbuilding Company (a subsidiary of the Waterman Steamship Company) in Chickasaw, Mobile County, in November 1943. Chickasaw was a major center of wartime shipbuilding during World War II. The USS Pivot was an Admiral Class minesweeper that saw action in the Pacific Theater and was awarded four battle stars from the U.S. Naval Command.
