Informally established in 1810, St. Bartley Primitive Baptist Church in Huntsville, Madison County, is recognized as the oldest African American congregation in Alabama. The building pictured here served the congregation from 1872 until 1964, when it was leveled as part of Huntsville’s urban renewal projects.
