Most Pure Heart of Mary Church

The Most Pure Heart of Mary Catholic Church in Mobile, Mobile County, was the base for organizing in the city during the civil rights movement, including the Neighborhood Organized Workers. The church was founded by the Society of St. Joseph of the Sacred Heart in 1899 to serve Mobile’s African American population and continues to operate. It is listed on the African American Heritage Trail of Mobile.
