Slavery in the Shoals Exhibit

In October 2021, Pope's Tavern Museum opened its "Slavery in the Shoals" exhibit, which documents the experiences of enslaved people in the region. Items on display include advertisements for sales and auctions of the enslaved as well as items related to the plantation economy and the cotton and textile industries. The textile work at the rear of the photograph is an "art map" created by Valerie S. Goodwin.
