Sipsey Wilderness Area

Sipsey Wilderness in northwest Alabama contained 12,726 acres when it was created in 1975 and currently encompasses some 25,000 acres. It was the first federally designated wilderness area in Alabama and was accomplished through the efforts of Mary Ivy Burks and other Alabama conservationists.
