Rooster Auction

In this 1919 photograph, Alabama congressmen laugh with Pres. Woodrow Wilson at the White House during an auction of roosters to raise funds for the construction of the Rooster Bridge across the Tombigbee River in Demopolis, Marengo County. Identified people include Edward B. Almon (looking down above the flag), Sen. John H. Bankhead Sr. to his right, Rep. William B. Bankhead just behind John H. to the right. Congressmen William Bacon Oliver and Sen. Oscar Underwood are to the right of Pres. Wilson.
