Mobile native and former U.S. Surgeon General Regina Benjamin (1956- ) is a physician and humanitarian who founded Bayou La Batre Rural Health Clinic in Bayou La Batre, Mobile County. Benjamin has served on many national health boards and committees, including a term as president of the Medical Association of the State of Alabama.
