This slipper, dating to around 2,000 BCE, was found in a cave in northern Alabama known to have been used by the Piqua Shawnee and other tribes in the area. This type of footwear has been found preserved in cave systems throughout the Southeast and was made by a process of twining and weaving yarn made from plants.
