Mobile native Peter Joseph Hamilton (1859-1927) was a lawyer, historian, professor, and judge of the U.S. District Court for the District of Puerto Rico. A prolific scholar, he is widely known for his work documenting the colonial history of the Gulf Coast, Colonial Mobile: An Historical Study.
