Fern Cave is located within the Fern Cave National Wildlife Refuge in Jackson County. The refuge encompasses 199 acres and was created as part of the conservation efforts for the endangered gray bat. Shown here is a federal ranger standing above the entrance to the Morgue section of the cave, which is where the bats overwinter.
