The U.S. Post Office issued this stamp, featuring Winthrop Sargent, in 1948 to honor the 150th anniversary of creation of the Mississippi Territory. The stamp also notes the dates of additions to the territory prior to Mississippi’s statehood in 1817. The portion of the territory that would become Alabama is the shaded area under the right half of the medallion at center.
