In March 1900, Lelia Wilder had gained such notoriety for her successful cotton plantation that she was featured in Leslie's Weekly, a national illustrated literature and news magazine. It was founded in New York City in 1855 as Frank Leslie's Illustrated Newspaper and was published until 1922.
