Politician and federal Indian agent John McKee (1771-1832) helped negotiate some of the most significant early treaties with the Choctaws, Chickasaws, and Cherokees in the Mississippi Territory, which at the time included all of present-day Alabama. He later represented the new state in the U.S. House of Representatives.
