James Mitchell

Engineer James Mitchell (1866-1920) was central to the founding of the Alabama Power Company and served as its president from 1912-13 and 1915-20. His international connections provided venture capital for the building of the first hydroelectric dam in Alabama at Lock 12 on the Coosa River. Mitchell Dam and Lake are named for him.
