Ishmael Jaffree

Ishmael Jaffree (1944-2024) was the plaintiff in the case Wallace v. Jaffree, in which the U.S. Supreme Court ruled that Alabama's 1981 voluntary prayer law violated the establishment clause of the First Amendment. An agnostic civil rights attorney, Jaffree filed a case in objection to teacher-led pre-lunch prayers in his son's kindergarten class.
