Birmingham native Hugh Martin (1914-2011) trained at the Birmingham Conservatory of Music and went on to become a successful composer, arranger, and playwright. Martin is widely praised for his score for the musical Meet Me in St. Louis (in 1944 for MGM Studios), which included the song "Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas."
