Holy Family Hospital

The abandoned Holy Family Hospital building in Ensley, Jefferson County, photographed 2006. It was constructed in 1943 by the Holy Family Catholic religious order in 1943 as part of the Black Hospital Movement during segregation. The Faith Chapel church community bought hospital that year with the intention of opening it as a clinic, but it remains vacant. The building was added to the Alabama Registry of Landmarks and Heritage in 2008.
