Anniston native Helen Sellers Davis (1912-2008), shown here at her architectural office, was the first woman granted a license to practice architecture in the state of Alabama. A graduate of the then-School of Architecture at Alabama Polytechnic Institute (now Auburn University), she ran her own Birmingham-based firm for 40 years.
