Long-time Mobile resident Gessner T. McCorvey (1882-1965) was a prominent attorney and served as chair of the state Democratic Executive Committee. In 1948, McCorvey was a leader in establishing the southern Dixiecrat movement, which arose in response to the national Democratic Party's support for civil rights.
