Bell Rack

A "bell rack" on display at the History Museum of Mobile. It was found near Pidgeon Creek in Butler County. Enslaved people who had been recaptured after escaping were forced to wear this apparatus, which had a bell hanging from the top, so that their whereabouts could be tracked at all times.
