Unlike modern toothed whales, some prehistoric toothed whales like Basilosaurus had different types of teeth. Today’s toothed whales generally have rows of conical pointed teeth. This Basilosaurus cetoides tooth, discovered in Choctaw County, probably served a shearing function to cut chunks of meat from prey animals.
