Elasmosaurus Artist's Reconstruction

Elasmosaurus is one of several types of plesiosaur in the family Elasmosuridae, which lived during the Cretaceous Period (130–66 million years ago). Elasmosaurs had the longest necks of all the plesiosaurs. Although Elasmosaur fossils have been found in Alabama, they are far less common than those of the much larger and more powerful mosasaurs, which likely outcompeted other marine predators in the region.
