In this 2005 photo, a worker performs maintenance on an airplane part at the Goodrich plant (now owned by Collins Aerospace) in Foley. North Carolina-based Collins is a subsidiary of Raytheon and is a major supplier of parts to the aerospace and defense industries. The company partners with Coastal Alabama Community College in an Aviation Maintenance Technician apprenticeship program aimed at ending shortages of skilled workers in the industry.
