A January 1864 advertisement directed at slaveowners, submitted by railroad magnate John Turner Milner during the building of railroads in central Alabama. Milner was one of the founders of the city of Birmingham.

WANTED TO HIRE 600 NEGROES
To work on the South & North Alabama and Central Railroad, between Montgomery and Elyton, a Bridging, Track-laying, Grading, getting ties, timbers, &c. for the year 1864.
Apply to Geo. O. Baker, Selma, R. H. Kelly, Lime Station, Shelby county, or the undersigned at Montgomery.
