Medal of Honor Awardees

The Medal of Honor is the highest military decoration in the U.S. Armed Forces and is conferred on those who have displayed exceptional courage and valor in combat. There are versions of the medal specific to the U.S. Army, U.S. Navy (including the Marine Corps and the Coast Guard), and U.S. Air Force (including the Space Force). The decoration was created during the American Civil War to honor U.S. troops in that conflict. Thirty-three Alabamians have received the Medal of Honor, some of whom are highlighted here.
