The E. V. Smith Research Center in Shorter is named for a former director of the Alabama Agricultural Experiment Station. Operated by Auburn University’s College of Agriculture, the station is a comprehensive research facility that conducts experiments and studies on a wide range of agricultural topics, including plant breeding, animal husbandry, horticultural innovation, and biosystems engineering.
