Zebra Crayfish

The zebra crayfish (Cambarus clairitae) is a stream-dwelling species found among rocks and logs in flowing water. It is only found in a very restricted area within the Locust Fork of the Black Warrior River system in Jefferson County. It was named after the wives of the biologists who described it: Claire and Rita.
