Yancey Chapel in Sawyerville, Hale County, was the thesis project of Auburn University's Rural Studio architecture students Steven Durden, Thomas Tretheway, and Ruard Veltman. The studio was founded by Samuel Mockbee in 1992 with fellow professor D. K. Ruth.
