Willie Blount

Willie Blount (1768-1835) was governor of Tennessee from 1809-1815. During the Creek War of 1813-14, Blount sent Andrew Jackson and his Tennessee forces to protect settlers on lands that would become part of present-day Alabama. Blount County is named in his honor.
