William W. Screws

William Wallace Screws (1839-1913) served as Alabama's Secretary of State from 1878-82. He was born in what is now Russell County and served in the Confederate Army during the Civil War. Screws was a lawyer, an editor with the Montgomery Advertiser, and postmaster prior to his term as secretary.
