William Flynt Nichols poses in the Hürtgen Forest in Germany during World War II. As a gunnery officer in the Eighth Infantry Division of the U.S. Army, Nichols took park in the Battle of Hürtgen Forest in the winter of 1944 and was wounded on November 10, losing part of his left leg as a result.
