A warehouse manager at Don's Carpet One in Birmingham. In 1980 Alabama's Hispanic population was almost entirely native-born, and the majority worked in professional services. New Hispanic and Latino arrivals to the U.S. generally are low-wage, non-union workers, in addition to a smaller number of professionals such as engineers, doctors, teachers, and business owners.
