Thomas Joseph Toolen (1886-1976) was an influential Roman Catholic bishop who led the Diocese (now Archdiocese) of Mobile for 42 years. His tenure saw the church expand its outreach efforts, particularly to African Americans, and made controversial statements regarding Catholicism and the civil rights activism.
