Set near Muscle Shoals in the northeast corner of the state, The Shoals lies in the scenic Tennessee Valley region. Each of its two courses, part of the Robert Trent Jones Golf Trail, is named for a famous person: the links-style Fighting Joe course is named for Confederate general Joe Wheeler and overlooks Wilson Lake; The Schoolmaster, named for President Woodrow Wilson (who was known as the "schoolmaster of politics"), is a more difficult course that follows the hilly, wooded terrain that borders the Tennessee River.
