Tenant farmer Mandy Handley stands with her children in the doorway of her Walker County cabin in this 1937 photo by Farm Security Administration photographer Arthur Rothstein. He and other photographers for the federal agency were sent out to document the lives of tenant farmers and sharecroppers in the wake of agriculture legislation sponsored by Alabama senator John H.
