Sylacauga Marble Quarry

The limestone deposits of the Sylacauga Marble Group in Talladega County have been extensively studied because of the mineral’s economic importance. The lower Sylacauga Marble Group dates to the early Cambrian in age, based on the presence of archaeocyathids and trilobite fossil fragments, indicating that the underlying Kahatchee Mountain Group dates to earlier Cambrian or older.
