The striped mullet (Mugil cephalus) is a saltwater species, but large numbers of individuals migrate into and out of the lower Alabama and Tombigbee rivers annually. Anglers attract striped mullet in the lower Alabama River by leaving a porous sack filled with corn on a sand bar for several days. On returning, they catch mullet around the sack using a cane pole baited with corn or bread balls.
