The homes of enslaved people are among a variety of historic structures preserved at Faunsdale Plantation outside Faunsdale, Marengo County. The plantation complex is one of very few in the state that includes a notable number of outbuildings, especially those occupied by enslaved people on the estate. It was established around 1843 by physician and planter Thomas Alexander Harrison and named after Faunus, the Roman god of forests and fields.
