Sipsey Mine Workers, 1913

Miners sit on the steam locomotive of the pit railway at the Sipsey coal mine in Walker County near Jasper in this 1913 photo. The mine and associated town were founded in 1912 by the Maryland Coal and Coke Company and bought by its president, Henry T. DeBardeleben, in 1915 and renamed the DeBardeleben Coal Company.
