Sibyl Murphree Pool (1901-1973) was the first woman to hold statewide elected office in Alabama, serving as Secretary of State from 1944 to 1951. She was also the second woman elected to the Alabama House of Representatives and also served as State Treasurer and Commissioner of the Alabama Public Service Commission.
