The sauger (Stizostedion canadense) is a carnivorous, prized game and food fish. In Alabama, it occurs in the Tennessee River system. Adult sauger range in weight from 2 to 5 pounds. Sauger fishing is best from March through May, when large numbers of fish congregate in Wilson, Wheeler, and Guntersville Dam tailwaters to spawn.
